 Astrophotography Gear 101

 Saturday, November 30, 2019 9:30 AM – 12 PM

Join astrophotographers Ron Brecher and Shawn Nielsen as they discuss some of their experiences with various types of astrophotography equipment made to enhance your equipment for imaging. During this seminar, Shawn and Ron will discuss a variety of gear they have tested and reviewed over the past year. Enjoy this information session that will help you understand hardware that can make your imaging easier to do, with better results! Limited space available, first come, first served. NO CHARGE.

About the speakers:

Shawn Nielsen is an astrophotographer living in Kitchener. His astro images have been published in Astronomy, Sky and Telescope, SkyNews and the RASC Journal magazines as well as featured online. When not imaging the cosmos Shawn runs his YouTube channel, Visibledark Astrophotography, where he discusses astronomy hardware and Pixinsight image processing.

Ron Brecher has been working to master the “dark arts” of astrophotography for about 15 years, shooting galaxies, nebulae, star clusters and more from his observatory. Ron’s images have been published in print and online journals, books and magazines, as CD cover art and on beer labels. His image of the Flying Bat and Squid Nebulae is on the cover of the 2019 Observer’s Handbook. He was the Technical Reviewer for the reference text “Inside PixInsight,” by Warren Keller. He writes regularly for Sky & Telescope and other publications, most recently “Lost in the
Glare” in the October 2018 S&T.  Ron speaks at star parties, club events and astrophotography conferences in Canada and the U.S., on topics related to backyard astronomy, astrophotography and image processing. Ron is available for private or group tutoring on any aspect of equipment selection and use, and image processing with PixInsight.
Ron lives in Guelph, Ontario where he and his wife Gail live with two dogs, two cats and two kids. In “real life,” Ron holds a PhD in biomedical chemistry and is a board-certified toxicologist with more than 30 years’ consulting experience, specializing in risk assessment and risk communication. To round things out, Ron plays rhythm guitar and lead vocals in the R&B Band “The Exceptions.”

Paris Night Market

Saturday June 29

Stop by our tent and try out some of our exciting new products for stargazing!  Jupiter will be observed here through a couple of our hand picked beginner level telescopes.  While there is no such thing as a real "beginner" telescope, we want to show you that with the right setup, there are great options out there, with every budget!   We will also demonstrate some awesome products for daytime use, like spotting scopes, binoculars and cell phone camera adapters!  The crowds will love to see what a simple camera adapter can do:  from snapping pictures of birds, to looking as a group through a telescope.  See us demonstrate a green laser pointer that appears to be beaming up to about 25,000 feet in the sky!
